Monitoring and Alerting#

Monitoring and alerting systems surface signals about system behavior, but often lack explicit context regarding assumption validity and operating regimes.

Structural awareness complements monitoring by providing interpretive context alongside metrics, logs, and alerts. Regime declarations and operating envelopes can be referenced during incident response to clarify whether observed behavior reflects drift, boundary approach, or regime exit.

This approach:

  • Reduces false urgency
  • Supports proportional response
  • Improves post‑incident analysis
  • Preserves existing alerting thresholds and logic

Structural awareness does not generate alerts or modify monitoring behavior. It augments human interpretation of observed signals within a declared context.
