Automation Boundary Markers#

Automation systems operate most safely when their assumptions are explicit. Structural awareness can be used to mark boundaries beyond which automation should be interpreted cautiously.

In this pattern, regime and validity declarations serve as boundary markers rather than control signals. Automation systems may reference these markers for context, but are not required to act on them.

Automation boundary markers:

  • Clarify when automation assumptions may no longer hold
  • Support human oversight during regime transitions
  • Reduce unintended consequences during drift

This approach preserves automation autonomy while improving transparency and trust in automated systems.
